The e-SHE program hosted a two-day e-SHE Universities Bi-Annual Program Progress Review and Graduation Workshop at Addis Ababa University on August 27 and 28, 2025. The workshop brought together leaders from the Ministry of Education, universities, program graduates, and partners.

Opening the event, H.E. Mr. Kora Tushune, State Minister for Higher Education, emphasized that e-SHE represents Ethiopia’s first major step toward digitalizing higher education and called on universities to ensure students are equipped with future-ready skills.

In his keynote, Dr. Ebba Mijena, CEO for Academic Affairs, highlighted the urgency of sustaining momentum, stressing that digital transformation must be embedded across all sectors, beginning with universities. He underscored the importance of equipping students with the skills and knowledge required to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Dr. Zelalem Assefa, CEO for ICT and Digital Education, outlined the Ministry’s key reforms shaping the future of the sector. These included the development of a Teaching Digital Competency Framework, strengthening digital infrastructure and cloud-based systems, advancing an AI education policy, and promoting lifelong learning through self-paced, micro-certification programs. He also stressed the importance of equitable digital access for all universities and students.

The workshop also celebrated the graduation of the second cohort of the Graduate Certificate in Learning and Design Technologies and announced the upcoming launch of accredited online programs in eight universities equipped with multimedia studios.

Participants engaged in discussion and reflection on strategic priorities and next steps, focusing on SSS training, institutionalization, digital content development, and teacher development.

Together with the Ministry of Education, Mastercard Foundation, Arizona State University, and Shayashone (SYS), e-SHE continues to shape a more inclusive, innovative, and future-ready higher education system in Ethiopia.
